Organizing Help Desperately Needed!!!
OK, so here's the latest scoop. I have this big mess, called my workshop. Actually, It's the back half of a two car garage that I walled in and made into a computer workshop. It's been kind of the bane of my existence for quite a long time. Problem is, I have sooo much stuff in here, that at one point, it literally sunk the floor of the garage by over an inch. No, seriously!! LOL. I managed since then to get rid of over 20,000 pounds of computer equipment. Here is how what is left is such a problem, I need the use of the full garage space the second week in July. I have a week off coming the first week of July, so I need to be ready to go on gettng all this stuff gone. Here is what I am asking:
With all this stuff, mainly pieces and parts of computer stuff, hard drives, cards, cases, etc... What is the best way to get all this stuff gone in the week I have off? I am open to eBay, Craigslist or whatever, even Freecycle for the stuff I can't sell. I just need some good advice from someone who has handled an epic mess of this proportion before. Where do I start, how do I proceed and most importantly how do I make sure this all gone in a week? I have a week of prep time this coming week, providing I'm not working twelve hour days, so anything that needs done ahead of time, that's my window of opportunity.
So, yeah. Any suggestions welcome. I am handy with a computer, so I can log stuff into a spreadsheet or what have you. Just need someone to help me get my head straight. I need this stuff gone, all of it, that week. No if, ands or buts. I can't stress that this project is of utmost importance. Alrighty then...

Yikes. You have got your work cut out for you, huh? I don't really have any sage advice but I have some smartass advice in that if you put it out on the curb it will be gone within a couple days (if not hours). Good luck.
Maybe you can have a little yard sale or something, list it somewhere for computer geeks? Try to get it all done at once? Or is there a small computer repair shop that might be able to use the stuff & buy or take it off of you?
and I haven't even finished my coffee yet! :)
(I'm much better at cleaning up other people's stuff than my own though...)
You could check to see if there are any places in your area that refurbish old computers to give to the needy. If you are having troulbe finding one places like schools, the Salvation Army, or the United Way might be able to tell you where to donate. It'd probably be a tax deduction, too.
Good luck! I'm terrible at organizing. I have no skills. I like to blame the artist that inhabits my soul... but I haven't done anything real creative lately... so I think the artist might have taken a vacation.
And I'm still messy. So that theory's probably not legitimate.
hehe
Kidding.....Rubbermaid's LOTS of Rubbermaid's.
xoxoxoxo
We do have some of those also. So noted. Great!
By the way, the local college was the recipient of about 12,000 pounds of the 20,000 pounds that left my workshop...
Some day though, you are gonna have several kids and you will be the exact opposite. You will rule the house with love, kindness and an iron fist. LOL. Kids will pick up after themselves and all will be right with the world. For now, enjoy being a slob. LOL
Check, have gas, will travel. LOL. I already have many totes for the other stuff, but I need to get rid of all the computer crap. Can't see doing anythign with it anymore. No time, no space, etc...
It was early, I was still asleep. hehehe
I say you should build a giant robot to do your bidding. Just make sure you have a disarm button so that when it turns evil and tries to destroy the world (as all robots eventually do), you can cause it to self destruct.
Put it all out in a nice but not overdone manner so it can be poked through easily. Tell people if they buy some largish thing they can have their pick from a box of small things. Have some paper bags or boxes available for people to fill and carry away. After lunch on Sunday figure out what no one's been much interested in and put it in a "free" box.
Then the remainder can be bagged or boxed for the pickup.
Excellent suggestions. It's the going through that will take some doing. Ugh. I have shelves and boxes and bins full of stuff. Maybe I could just raffle the stuff off in one bulk lot? LOL.
As to the list, well, that's just your 8 or however many categories, with maybe an example for each one.
i'm with the computer recycler places. do y'all have those? free is a good word. it eliminates time and clutter, and do peeps love a bargain. 'works' is a necessary word to compliment any 'free' sign.
~microzoftig, works!
