Organizing Help Desperately Needed!!!

Comments

Yikes. You have got your work cut out for you, huh? I don't really have any sage advice but I have some smartass advice in that if you put it out on the curb it will be gone within a couple days (if not hours). Good luck.

Maybe you can have a little yard sale or something, list it somewhere for computer geeks? Try to get it all done at once? Or is there a small computer repair shop that might be able to use the stuff & buy or take it off of you?

Good point. I know of two computer repair shops that I could call up and see if they would be interested. Great idea... I have such smart neighbors...

and I haven't even finished my coffee yet! :)

(I'm much better at cleaning up other people's stuff than my own though...)

It's always easier. Same with advice too. LOL
ALWAYS!

You could check to see if there are any places in your area that refurbish old computers to give to the needy. If you are having troulbe finding one places like schools, the Salvation Army, or the United Way might be able to tell you where to donate. It'd probably be a tax deduction, too.

These people have much better ideas than I do. I'm clueless. I would say the small repair shops would be a super idea though!

Good luck! I'm terrible at organizing. I have no skills. I like to blame the artist that inhabits my soul... but I haven't done anything real creative lately... so I think the artist might have taken a vacation.

And I'm still messy. So that theory's probably not legitimate.
Poor gasoline. Light match. Toss match. Run.
hehe
Kidding.....Rubbermaid's LOTS of Rubbermaid's.
xoxoxoxo

We do have some of those also. So noted. Great!

By the way, the local college was the recipient of about 12,000 pounds of the 20,000 pounds that left my workshop...

Some day though, you are gonna have several kids and you will be the exact opposite. You will rule the house with love, kindness and an iron fist. LOL. Kids will pick up after themselves and all will be right with the world. For now, enjoy being a slob. LOL

Check, have gas, will travel. LOL. I already have many totes for the other stuff, but I need to get rid of all the computer crap. Can't see doing anythign with it anymore. No time, no space, etc...

Please know that I meant 'pour gasoline' and not 'ooohhhh poor gasoline'
It was early, I was still asleep. hehehe

Of course, with the prices of gasoline, we all know that it is anything but poor. LOL

I say you should build a giant robot to do your bidding. Just make sure you have a disarm button so that when it turns evil and tries to destroy the world (as all robots eventually do), you can cause it to self destruct.

This is easy. All those ideas are fine but you gotta do them in order. And you have to offer the stuff in an orderly way, because that's how it will get gone fastest. First, make a reasonably detailed list of what's there, with a few very detailed examples. Then put part or all of the list on Craig's list and say you're having a weekend sale, no reasonable offer refused. Also ask those repair shops (who might not really want your stuff nor will people who need to invest in newer equipment for their patrons) if you can put a sign in their window, and also put signs in the grocery store and laundromat, but don't include your phone number. Of course put some signs up in your neighborhood if you're allowed. Finally, call one of those charity places that picks up stuff and schedule a date for pickup for the remainder.

Put it all out in a nice but not overdone manner so it can be poked through easily. Tell people if they buy some largish thing they can have their pick from a box of small things. Have some paper bags or boxes available for people to fill and carry away. After lunch on Sunday figure out what no one's been much interested in and put it in a "free" box.

Then the remainder can be bagged or boxed for the pickup.
Hmmm... Add that to my list of ways to take over and rule the world...

Excellent suggestions. It's the going through that will take some doing. Ugh. I have shelves and boxes and bins full of stuff. Maybe I could just raffle the stuff off in one bulk lot? LOL.

No, now, this requires a little effort and time, but no brain power. You could get a kid or two to help and pay them in ice cream or a pizza. You already know what you have. So say there are 8 categories. You start with one section of shelves or bins and empty them out. Put an example of each category into one box and proceed from there, until the section is finished. Then do a new section. It's just a big job broken into chunks. If you have help you can make it a competition or a game. I mean, you have a goal, to get it all out of there. So each chunk finished is a step toward finishing your goal. Win.

As to the list, well, that's just your 8 or however many categories, with maybe an example for each one.
Ah, chunkify, eat the elephant in smaller bites... <smack> I should have not been so overwhelmed and seen that. When faced with a deadline on a project this epic, and it is truly epic, I just went into panic mode first... LOL

i'm with the computer recycler places. do y'all have those? free is a good word. it eliminates time and clutter, and do peeps love a bargain. 'works' is a necessary word to compliment any 'free' sign.

~microzoftig, works!

sounds like you got a lot of good ideas so I will just send wishes of lots of luck and success with your organization endeavors
